Kinematic graphs represent the motion of real-life objects. To build intuition for concepts like position and velocity, especially in the context of these graphs, try walking in front of an ultrasonic motion detector.

What you need

Vernier LabQuest Mini (or LabQuest 2 or 3) connected by USB. Motion Detector in the DIG 1 port, with its sensitivity switch on the walking-figure setting. Chrome or Edge. Other web browsers are not supported.

Put the detector at roughly waist height, with about 3 metres of open space in front of it.
If the distances it reports do not match a tape measure, use Calibrate to correct them before you play.

Motion Match

Connect a position detector and try to match the kinematic plots.
